What is the App Library?

The App Library is how officially supported app and tools can be added to Sidephone to extend its functionality.

How are apps organized?

Apps are organized into App Packs. To reveal an App Pack on Sidephone, its QR code must be scanned.

How are apps installed?

Select 'Install' on applications you would like to install onto your Sidephone from the App Packs that you added.

TT9 for predictive T9 text entry and JakeType for predictive compact QWERTY text entry.

Essentials+ App Pack

Core everyday apps including Notally (notes), Maps (Sidephone maps powered by HERE), Fossify Calendar, Recorder (local audio recording), LocalSend (cross-platform file sharing), and Auxio (local music player).

Proton App Pack

Privacy-focused services including Proton Mail (encrypted email), Proton VPN, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive (encrypted file and photo backup), Proton Pass (password manager), and Standard Notes (encrypted notes).

Messaging App Pack

Messaging clients including WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram for text and group communication.

Security App Pack

Authentication and credential management tools including Aegis and Duo for two-factor authentication, and Bitwarden for password management.

Browser App Pack

Web and connectivity tools including DAVx⁵ (calendar and contacts syncing), K-9 (email client), Uber (transportation), Browser (local simple browser), Vivaldi (cross-platform browser with translation and notes), and Firefox (cross-platform browser).

Utilities App Pack

Core system tools including Olauncher (custom launcher), Librera FD (PDF reader), Audile (music recognition), and Breezy Weather (weather application).

Other App Pack

A collection of utility and media apps including Organic Maps (open-source navigation), AudioAnchor and Transistor (audiobooks and podcasts), Obtanium (alternative app store), Open Camera (camera with QR scanning), and Catima (simple wallet alternative).

FAQ

Yes. We recognize that essential tools are different for everyone. For this reason, we have not added restrictions that would prevent 3rd party applications from being added and installed. Sidephone uses AOSP as its base.

Before adding applications, please ensure that they were obtained legitimately. Apps that rely on Google services to function (eg. certain health apps, payment apps, communication tools, transportation apps) will not work because Sidephone is de-Googled. Please note, Sidephone cannot guarantee or be held responsible for experiences that you have as a result of installing 3rd party apps, as these are outside of our control.
