Global Privacy Policy
Updated: October 1st, 2026
Sidephone respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Side Technologies Inc. collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit our websites, customize or purchase a Sidephone, contact us, or use Sidephone-operated products and services.
We aim to collect information for clear purposes, provide meaningful choices, and limit unnecessary data collection.
1. Who we are
Side Technologies Inc. is a Canadian corporation responsible for personal information processed through sidephone.com, configure.sidephone.com, global.sidephone.com (our Global Store), and associated customer support, Community Creations, and Sidephone-operated device services.
Our affiliated U.S. company, Side Technologies USA Inc., separately operates usa.sidephone.com and U.S. cellular subscriptions. Those activities are covered by the U.S. Privacy Policy.

2. Information we collect
Website and configurator information. We may collect IP addresses, browser and device information, approximate location inferred from IP addresses, pages visited, traffic sources, cookie identifiers, and website interaction information. Our configurator may record product selections, interactions, and checkout progression. You can customize a phone without providing a name or email address before checkout.
We may use session recordings and heatmaps to improve usability. We intend to mask or exclude personal and sensitive inputs and exclude payment-entry screens and other sensitive areas.
Purchases and payments. For Global Store purchases, we collect or receive information such as name, email, telephone number, billing and shipping details, products purchased, order history, payment status, and transaction information. Shopify and supported payment providers process payments; we receive limited payment-method details and transaction references, but do not directly receive or store complete payment card numbers or security codes. Shopify may make order history accessible through our website.
International shipping and compliance. Where necessary for customs clearance, import or export requirements, taxation, or applicable trade restrictions, we may collect identification or tax information, customs-related details, address-verification information, and information needed for sanctions, restricted-party, or export-control screening. We disclose relevant information to authorized payment, shipping, logistics, customs, or compliance providers as necessary.
Communications and support. When you contact us, request a return, or make a warranty claim, we may collect your contact details, order information, device serial number, issue description, and photographs, videos, or diagnostics that you choose to provide.
Subscriptions and promotions. We may collect information when you subscribe to emails, request stock alerts, join a waitlist, register for early access, or enter a contest, giveaway, or sweepstakes. Depending on the activity, we may collect contact details, preferences, eligibility information, entries, and prize-delivery details.
Reviews and Community Creations. If you submit a review, testimonial, or Community Creations project, we may collect your selected display name, creator or developer details, project descriptions, ratings, photographs, videos, files, links, and other submitted content. Information approved for publication may be publicly visible.
Research and feedback. We may collect voluntary survey responses, interview feedback, usability findings, bug reports, screenshots, and technical diagnostics. We provide appropriate notice and obtain required consent before recording research interviews or usability sessions.
3. Information from your Sidephone device
Sidephone does not require a proprietary Sidephone account to use the phone and does not operate personal cloud accounts or cloud synchronization for contacts, messages, photographs, or other personal content.
We do not collect routine behavioral or performance telemetry, automatically receive crash or network-state logs, or collect or track the precise GPS location of your phone.
Our software-update infrastructure may process limited technical information, including IP addresses, device models, software versions, and update requests, to deliver and secure updates. IP addresses may indicate approximate geographic location. If you voluntarily submit diagnostic information, we process what is necessary to investigate the issue.
For repair, return, replacement, or warranty service, customers should back up their information, remove SIM/eSIM credentials and accounts where applicable, and factory-reset the device before shipping it. If a device cannot be reset, authorized personnel or repair partners may access or erase information only when reasonably necessary for the requested service, using appropriate safeguards.
Independent applications, mobile carriers, operating-system components, and connected services may process information, including location information that you choose to authorize, under their own privacy practices. The Global Store does not provide or administer cellular subscriptions.
4. How and why we use information
We use personal information to:
Process orders, payments, deliveries, imports, exports, returns, refunds, and warranties.
Provide support, software updates, troubleshooting, and requested services.
Operate and improve our websites, configurator, products, and services.
Send requested notifications, product news, and marketing where permitted.
Measure advertising effectiveness, create permitted audiences, and understand customer journeys.
Operate reviews, Community Creations, customer research, and promotions.
Prevent fraud, assess payment and transaction risks, screen restricted transactions where necessary, protect security, and comply with law.
We and our service providers may use automated risk signals or scoring to identify fraud, payment risks, abuse, or suspicious activity. Decisions with consequential effects on customers receive human review rather than being based solely on automated scoring.
For people protected by the EU or UK GDPR, the legal basis depends on the purpose: performance of a contract for purchases and requested services; legal obligations for tax, customs, regulatory, and required records; legitimate interests, where appropriate, for customer support, security, fraud prevention, and service improvements; and consent where required for optional marketing, non-essential tracking, and certain advertising. Reviews, Community Creations, research, and promotions may rely on contract, legitimate interests, or consent, depending on the activity.
Our legitimate interests include operating a reliable business, improving products, preventing misuse, and responding to customers. We weigh these interests against individuals' rights and expectations.
5. Email marketing and advertising
You may subscribe to promotional emails through newsletter forms, checkout, or other appropriately disclosed signup experiences. Requested product notifications and broader marketing may be combined where permitted, with suitable notice and consent. We may personalize emails using preferences, purchase history, checkout activity, and permitted website engagement, and measure opens, clicks, and conversions.
We may send abandoned-checkout reminders where legally permitted. You can unsubscribe from promotional messages at any time. Essential order, service, security, and support messages do not depend on a marketing subscription.
We use or intend to use advertising services from Meta, Google and YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and X. Subject to applicable consent and privacy choices, they may process cookies, browser identifiers, website activity, conversion events, purchase information, and appropriately protected customer identifiers for measurement, personalization, retargeting, and customer-list audiences. Tracking may operate through browser technologies or server-side integrations.
We do not sell, rent, or license customer databases to independent data brokers for their own marketing. Certain advertising disclosures may nonetheless qualify as a "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising under applicable privacy laws.
6. Shopify and Enhanced Services
Our Global Store is hosted by Shopify. Shopify processes information when you browse our store, check out, or purchase a product.
Shopify Network Intelligence is enabled on our Global Store. It allows Shopify to use information about customer interactions with our store, other merchants, and Shopify to provide Enhanced Services that can support security, store improvements, personalization, measurement, and advertising, subject to applicable law and privacy choices. Shopify may process some information for its own purposes under its terms and privacy rules.
We do not use the separate Shopify Audiences product and have no current plans to enable it.
See the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy/consumers and the Shopify Privacy Portal at https://privacy.shopify.com/.
7. Who we share information with
We disclose relevant information when necessary for legitimate business purposes, including to:
Shopify, payment processors, and ecommerce service providers;
Fulfillment warehouses, shipping carriers, customs brokers, logistics, and trade-compliance partners;
Authorized repair and warranty-service providers;
Intercom and other customer-support providers;
Website analytics, session-recording, advertising, and email marketing providers;
Review-management, research, and promotion-administration providers;
Affiliate-attribution partners, who receive referral, conversion, and commission information rather than customer names, contact details, or shipping addresses;
Side Technologies USA Inc. and authorized personnel supporting legitimate operations;
Authorized prospective investors, lenders, buyers, advisers, or successors when reasonably necessary for a financing, investment, merger, restructuring, acquisition, or business sale, subject to appropriate confidentiality and privacy safeguards; and
Regulators, courts, public authorities, or other recipients when permitted or required by law, including for security, fraud prevention, or trade compliance.
We intend to use Intercom AI features to assist human support personnel. We intend to restrict customer-support conversations and attachments from use in training general-purpose or third-party AI models through appropriate contractual and technical controls.
8. Reviews, Community Creations, and public contributions
If you submit content for public display, your chosen display name, project attribution, review, images, videos, project files, and links may become publicly accessible. We intend to keep private details such as customer email addresses, order numbers, and shipping addresses unpublished.
Submissions may be reviewed or moderated before publication. Applicable submission terms explain publication and promotional reuse rights. You may request corrections, attribution changes, or removal by contacting support@sidephone.com. Requests about previously authorized promotional uses will be assessed under applicable permissions and law.
9. Cookies and third-party content
Our websites use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality, analytics, advertising, affiliate attribution, and embedded content. We may embed YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and X content, whose providers may process information when embedded content loads.
We apply region-specific consent controls and privacy choices. Where prior consent is legally required, non-essential tracking and embedded content must not activate before the necessary consent is obtained. Elsewhere, we provide applicable opt-outs and privacy choices. See our Cookie Policy and the Cookie Settings available on our websites.
10. International transfers
Sidephone operates in Canada and works with an affiliated U.S. company, fulfillment partners in Hong Kong, and service providers in other countries. Personal information may be stored, accessed, or processed in Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, and other locations where our service providers operate.
Where applicable law restricts international transfers or imposes data-residency obligations, we take steps to comply and use appropriate legal safeguards, including applicable contractual or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms. Information is not necessarily stored only in the country where a customer lives.
11. How long we retain information
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including orders, accounting, tax and customs records, support, warranties, fraud prevention, legal disputes, establishing or defending claims, and compliance with law.
When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it as appropriate. Certain information may remain where required or permitted by law, including during legal holds and in backups until ordinary backup retention cycles expire.
12. Your privacy rights, choices, and complaints
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access or obtain a copy of your personal information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion or restriction, object to certain processing or profiling, withdraw consent, request portability, opt out of certain marketing or targeted advertising, or complain to a privacy regulator.
To exercise a privacy right or make a complaint, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@sidephone.com. We may verify your identity or request further information where reasonably necessary. The Privacy Officer will review and investigate complaints, respond within applicable legal deadlines, and explain any lawful limits on a request. If a complaint remains unresolved, you may contact the relevant privacy regulator where permitted by law.
You may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the link in those messages, manage website tracking through Cookie Settings, and submit other advertising opt-out requests to our Privacy Officer. We honor legally required browser privacy signals, including Global Privacy Control, where applicable. For Shopify's own privacy choices, visit https://privacy.shopify.com/.
13. Children
Our websites and purchasing services are directed to adults and individuals legally permitted to make purchases. Sidephone is a general-purpose phone, not a product specifically marketed or directed to children. Parents or guardians may choose to provide the hardware to a minor, but ordinary use of the phone does not create a proprietary Sidephone account or involve Sidephone-operated routine device tracking.
We do not knowingly collect children's personal information in violation of applicable law. If we learn that such collection has occurred, we will take appropriate steps to address it.
14. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including restricted access, secure authentication, encryption where appropriate, service-provider protections, and incident-response procedures. No system is completely risk-free. We investigate suspected incidents and provide notifications where required by law.
15. Updates to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our products, services, processing practices, or legal obligations change. We publish the revised version with a new effective date, provide additional notice where appropriate or required, and seek new consent when required for a new use.
